Samit Patel has sent another reminder to England selectors with an impressive all-round display in his team's County Championship Division One game against Worcestershire.

Patel took 3-31 from 12 overs in Worcestershire's first-innings and later scored 81 off 142 balls to take his team to a strong position.

The 26-year-old slammed 15 boundaries and shared a 102-run fourth-wicket partnership with Adam Voges and another 93 for the fifth wicket with Steven Mullaney.

Nottinghamshire currently trail by 24 runs with two wickets remaining in the first innings.

Patel had made his ODI debut for England in August 2008 against Scotland.

He remained a part of England's team for the series against South Africa later that year, and his match-winning figures of 5-41 in the third game won him the man-of-the-match award.

The all-rounder was told by the team management to work on his fitness, so as to make himself available for selection again. But he failed and was left out as a result.

Earlier, England coach Andy Flower had expressed frustration over Patel's reluctance to shape up.

"We want tough, determined cricketers for England and he is not indicating that he is capable of that," Flower had said.

"It would be sad if he looks back and he hasn't done something that everyone is capable of," he had added.
